I am baby sitting my friend’s dog & cat for the week. It’s been raining non-stop all weekend & we’ve been stuck inside getting a bit stir-crazy. Cooper, the dog, decides to let it be known that he has had enough and indicates with his shrill bark, that he really wants to go for a walk. I’m thinking – you’ve got to be kidding – NO WAY, it’s pouring! As I sat at my desk a bit longer, I started feeling guilty – after all, I had seen a couple of people out earlier walking their dogs. So, I decided to change my thinking -heck, this is a perfect time to test out my new waterproof Marmot rain jacket. So, on with the jacket & leash (for Cooper, not me) & out we go. We took about a 30 min. brisk walk/jog around the neighborhood.
When we got back, I felt pretty good:
- emotionally, about making a positive out of a negative
- physically, it was actually better than working out inside again
- mentally, I felt recharged and ready to get back to work
Dogs are a great “excuse” to get out and get some exercise!
What are some of your excuses not to exercise? How do you overcome them?
